A tourism bus crashes into a cliff in Bukit Bego, Kedungbuweng Padukuhan, Wukirsari Village, Kapanewon Imogiri, Bantul. Police revealed the chronology of the accident that killed 13 passengers.

"So when the PO Gandos Abadi tour bus, which is a family gathering group from a convection company in Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java, conducts tourism activities. The route is from Breksi (Sleman Regency), Pine Forest (Mangunan) and finally Parangtritis," said the Bantul Police Chief. From the Pine Forest, continued Ihsan, the bus takes the Imogiri-Dlingo line. However, when passing through the Bukit Dingle area, the bus was not strong enough to climb up so some passengers were forced to get off.

When passing on the derivative road, Ihsan said that the bus driver had shown signs of panic. "After being able to get on, then the passengers got back up and at the time of the descent the vehicle went down and suddenly swayed. So the vehicle swayed, hit the north of the road and was wrecked," he said.

As a result, 13 passengers died. Meanwhile, 34 other passengers are undergoing treatment at three hospitals in Bantul.

"13 people died, some were at the TKP and during treatment at the hospital. Then 34 injured people are currently being treated in three hospitals, namely Panembahan Senopati Hospital, Nur Hidayah Hospital and the three PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul Hospitals," explained Ihsan.

It was explained, based on a preliminary examination, there was a witness who saw the driver in a panic while shifting gears. This indicates an indication that the brakes failed when the bus was moving down a downhill road.

"From the statement, the witness saw the driver panicking while playing with the gears. So there was an indication that the brakes failed so that the gear shifts when going down," said Ihsan when giving a statement at the Bantul Police Headquarters, Sunday (6/2) night.

Ihsan continued, the bus then swerved until it hit a cliff on the north side of the road. "This caused the bus to swerve, hit the north of the road and wrecked," he said.

As for the victims who died, tonight they were immediately taken to the funeral home in Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java. For those undergoing treatment at the hospital, Ihsan said most were due to head injuries.
